Woman sitting on top of mountain. Move past failure

How to Move Past Failure

I can remember one of the best pieces of advice I’ve gotten. Fresh out of high school, conflicted on what to major in, I asked my brother for advice.

And I remember I was considering nursing at the time, but I heard the horror stories about how hard it was, and how you have no life, and I thought … psychology would definitely fit my lifestyle better.

The truth is I was scared. Scared I would fail, scared it would take me too long to complete, which it did, fear of the unknown. And the few words that my brother said to me were one of the few things he’s ever said that actually made sense.

He posed a question “Are you not going to do it just because it’s hard?”. And I thought to myself well, yea that’s the point. But I looked deeper and considered what legitimate reason did I have for not going after what I want.

This is the question ladies that I had to answer. At what point in your life do you stop running from challenges? Do you stop putting things off?

What can you do to overcome your worst and your strongest enemy, that is oftentimes yourself? Let me share with you how.

1. Conquer Your Fear

Do not allow the spirit of fear to conquer you.

True desire in the heart for anything good is God’s proof to you sent beforehand to indicate that it’s yours already.

Denzel Washington

Go after what you want, and be relentless until you obtain it. Point blank.

Yes, with change comes fear but do it anyway. Always remember You Run You.

Your emotions don’t run you, your body can’t control you, your feet can’t hit the ground unless your mind tells your body to do it and then follow through with deliberate action.

Stop thinking about what other people are gonna think, stop thinking about if you’re gonna be able to finish, stop thinking about if you’re gonna fail, and just take the first step.

Take the first step. Fear has the ability to appear real in our minds. So real that if you constantly meditate and worry about something that is yet to come or may never even happen, your brain cannot tell the difference between whether you’re just thinking, or if it’s reality.

Act with haste, life is too short not to take immediate action. This leads me to number two.

2. Kill Procrastination

Procrastination is your worst enemy right next to fear. Stop waiting for the right time, the right season, the right year.

Do what you can now with what you have. This is so important. You don’t have time?

Make time. I find that you have time for whatever you make the time for, whatever you put on your agenda, whatever you make as a priority.

There are 168 hours in every week, if you claim you don’t have time, you need to account for every single hour, what exactly are you doing?

Think about what is necessary and what you can avoid doing, or at least what can you cut down your hours on. Do not wait for the perfect time to start working towards your goals, there will never be a perfect time. Start where you are with what you have.

Going back to school was something I kept putting off for some time because I wanted to pay off debt. Let me tell you, I started anyway and while paying my tuition out of pocket,  I paid off more debt than I could believe.

Being able to budget my time properly caused me to start budgeting my money better. As I improved in one area, I also advanced in another area of life, all because I challenged myself to do more. Start where you are with what you have.

3. Guard Your Mind

Guard your subconscious mind. The thing about the subconscious mind is that it’s SUBCONSCIOUS. It will speak to you when you don’t even know it’s speaking to you.

It will have you singing a song from 2001 that you were listening to repeatedly out of nowhere when you’re brushing your teeth in the morning. This thing is powerful.

It’s so powerful it can either be a great contributor in reaching your goals and success or it can be a great enemy depending on what you’ve been feeding it.

You want to avoid to the best of your ability negative people and negative environments. People that criticize you when you share your goals and dreams. Haters basically. You want your inner conversation to be filled with thoughts, ideas, and imaginations that are true, that are pure, that are honest and just and lovely.

Any time your pressing toward a goal or a dream that is worthwhile you will already have external pressures and obstacles. The last thing you need is internal obstacles as well. Get out of your own way.

Speak positively about yourself and have compassion towards YOU. Your learning, your growing, everything happens in due to time.

Until Next Time With Love,

Senqua! I love this! I think this is such great content, you’re doing amazing! I loved how you mentioned: You want to avoid to the best of your ability negative people and negative situations. Have you ever heard of the quote “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”? I think this quote perfectly sums up what you were getting at. If you spend your time around people who are negative and unsuccessful, chances are, unfortunately, you will be too. In some cases, I feel bad distancing myself from people that have negative outlooks, which can make it really hard to do.

Lol, your comment just made me smile. Thanks Grace for the feedback! I actually have come across that quote and that’s why anyone who truly knows me know I don’t allow just anyone to take up space in my life. Our subconscious minds and our souls are affected by what enters our ear and eye gate constantly, making selective exposure a necessity in life. One of my favorite books says we should guard our heart above all else because everything we do flows from it. With that being said never feel bad for choosing yourself and your health i.e. your emotional and mental health before others. When your at your best you can give your best to others. Take care.
